Why am I not approved for this store card?

Deal Score0

I’m 24 years old and have had a regular credit card with my bank (Usaa) for 4 years and it’s credit limit is only $ 500. I barely use it and the balance is usually low. I’ve been married for 5 years and my husband is 4 years older than me so he always gets approved for any loans/mortgages/or auto loans we need and then I’m listed as secondary. I also have 2 store cards with Target and Old Navy and my balances are less than half of the credit limits. I’ve only had these 2 cards for a little over a year maybe but I’m always current and pay my bill on time. Most of the utilities in our house are under my name and we never pay late. We bought our first house last May and someone told me you may not be approved because of our new home purchase. My name is on the deed but not the mortgage loan so that shouldn’t affect me, right? Anyways, the other day I tried to apply for a ToysRus card because we want to make a big purchase on a swing set for our son and with the 15% sign up discount that would knock off nearly $ 100 off the total price. We have the money to buy the swing set in full but thought it would be nice to apply for the card, get the discount, and then pay off the total right away. I wasn’t approved. Today I logged on to Usaa and requested my credit report and my score was 695 and no outstanding balances. Good balance/credit ration of 79% and I can’t figure out why I wouldn’t be approved for a silly store card. My husband said he would go apply on Friday and list me on the application but it’s frustrating as to why I wasn’t approved. Any feedback would be great. Thanks.

call whoever denied you your credit. i believe it’s the law that when you are turned down they must tell you why if you ask

Wait for the letter they will send you that will outline WHY you were declined.

USAA said that one of your scores was 695. It could not have said that your only score was 695, because it is impossible to have one and only one score. Everyone with a score has many scores. The bank that issues the ToysRus cards probably uses one of the other scores, not the same one as USAA.
