Music teachers are either private or employed by an education instutution. Private teachers don’t make much when considering that they typically have no benefits such as sick leave, vacation time, health insurance, etc. The work is fleixble though.

There are a lot of positions for phD’s in counseling, and this is a good option, so long as you don’t go too far into debt financing your education. The pay is reasonable for the investment, but not sufficient to support a $ 100K educational debt.

For a Master’s program involving counseling, consider getting a Master’s in Social Work. It would set you up to do individual counseling or run programs for the government or a nonprofit. These jobs typically pay fairly well ($ 38-48K/year, more in management) and cost far less in terms of education debt and time investment.
