Secured credit card is good if that is all you can qualify for now. You want to be sure to always pay the bill in full every month on time right after you receive the Statement. Never pay late. Always pay the total due so you won’t pay interest. After a year of that process, applying for a non-secured credit card, through your bank or credit union is a good place to start. Stay out of debt or it will eat your soul!

A secured card that reports your payment history to the major credit bureaus will help build up your credit score. Here are some other ways to increase your credit:

Having a credit card can either help or hurt you in building your credit score. To build your score, never make purchases over half of the available limit on your card, make sure to pay off the balance the next month, and if not, never pay just the minimum payment. Try to pay off larger purchases over a few months and NEVER be late or miss a payment all together.
