Buying the house or land is the easy part, legally owning it is not possible in the true sense of the word “own”. There are ways you can have right over the land through leases, PMA companies etc. However, to actually OWN it is not yet possible. I have gone through this process and am sure what I’m telling is correct. If you are bent on doing this you should talk to some of the lawyers in Bali as they have the most experience, but check with a few as they seem to give different answers. If they say you can OWN it go to another one.
A few of the Bali real estate web sites have info on this, worth having a look at them too,

Can’t. Unless you have Indonesian wife, that also with pre-nuptial marriage agreement, and than buy on her name.
or you can make your own PT or CV (PMA companies) and buy the property on your company’s name (but tax is double)
or if you have a trusted friends, go to lawyer or notaries and make agreement to buy on your friends name. but that’s also on how long you can trust your friends. I tried all these. good luck!
