Our house is not liveable…please ideas? DESPERATE!!?

Deal Score0

We have lived in our home for a year and a half. Since we moved in, the roof sprung a leak, the plumbing had to be redone, the 100ft oak out front came crashing down, the gas had to be fixed, and now we had a hot water pipe burst under the house. We didn’t know it happened until the thermostat started dripping water and my hand went through the wall. Apparently for about a week our crawl space was a steam room and created pockets of steam and moisture in our walls. We now have no walls in 1/2 the house and are going to have to have a good bit of our flooring replaced. All this being said, our insurance is not going to cover everything. There is a cap on mold damage and we were told yesterday that we basically had to pick whether we wanted walls or mold free air. SO – my question is….. is there anything we can do about this? We have already dropped over 10K in repairs, I was laid off, my hubby’s salary was cut 40% and we don’t have the extra 20K to fix either problem right now. Is there anything that we can do? Is there any kind of consumer protection against a house that completely falls down within 18 mos? If we do not fix the mold, our house will be condemned, but we can’t live without walls or floors either. If your house is not liveable, what happens next? I’m guessing that we will still owe the $ 180K mortgage, but is there anything we can do? If we were to take out a 20K loan to fix the problem, we couldn’t afford payments right now. I’m going crazy just thinking about it all. Any advice, ideas, or suggestions would be great. TIA!!

From your story, you do not sound as if you two are prepared to be home owners.
You say the plumbing had to be redone and yet a pipe burst under your house? Strange.
Somebody is to blame for that: either you failed to check it very well or the plumber didn’t or both.
The good news is you are free to do the repairs yourself – since you are out of work. Sounds like you didn’t even consider that which brings us back to my first comment.

who the hell do you think you are???? Things go wrong. Jobs are lost. Life happens and who are you to judge this person on the shit they have gone through. It sucks to be stuck in a situation like that. I’m there right now, and sometimes no matter how much you prepare, things just happen. Grow up and move on. Your mom ever tell you if you dont have anything nice to say dont say anything at all???? prolly not, and whats sad is your kids are prolly going to grow up with the same snotty ass attitude you have and think they are better then everyone else. Leave this person alone. she came on here for answers and you put her down and tell her she’s where she is because of no one’s fault but her own. Shut the hell up.
