It’s standard practice, an insurance company will look for any reason it can to lower the payout on a claim, some will visit and put pressure on people to try and catch them out – even when there’s nothing to catch!

Just keep your cool if they show up and stick to the facts.

What do you mean, the ADJUSTER has been paid? Adjusters don’t get the claim money. They flat out don’t, unless you hired a public adjuster.

If they’re interviewing you, then they suspect the claim is either fake, or you exaggerated your loss. They’re sending someone to see your home – to see what kind of furnishings you have, and if what you claimed, is “in line” with your living habits. If you claimed 17 52″ flat panel televisions, there could be an issue.

They ALSO have to wait until they receive a copy of the police report.

If it were me, I’d call my agent, and say, hey, can you call this adjuster, and ask them why this is taking so long, and why they obviously are suspecting some kind of fraud in this case, and let me know. At the very least, the agent should be able to tell you what the ‘red flags’ are on this claim, for the adjuster. Like, maybe you claimed theft within a week of buying the insurance. Maybe you claimed unusual items, or unusual quantities of those things. Maybe it’s just more stuff than someone could normally haul off during one burglary. But your agent should be able to even take a look at the list of things you’ve claimed, and give you a pretty good idea what the problem is, from the list.

Unfortunately the most common type of homeowner’s fraud is fake thefts. Honestly can you blame potential fraudsters? What’s better having your stuff burn away or paying a buddy to smash up stuff that doesn’t matter and take stuff that’s worth money.

Its very common for the company to investigate thoroughly. Don’t be offended its just the world we live in today. If you are not responsible for the robbery then you have nothing to worry about you will have your money soon enough. A word to the wise; though if you want to switch companies as a result of the service you received switch now. Other wise you will be stuck with that company for a couple years till the claim drops from your records.

    An investigation is normal.

There are dishonest people out there who fake theft claims. The insurance company has to make sure you are not one of the dishonest ones.

If your claim is legit- nothing to worry about. Be mad at all the dishonest people.

If you are one of the dishonest ones who are faking a claim – go ahead and with draw the claim now.
