My family would like to purchase a church for a non-for-profit community center. Help on raising funds…?

Deal Score0

OK, so my older sister found a few churches for sale in our area- the smaller one at $ 290,000 and the larger at $ 350,000 (we like this one better because of more parking space/building size). We would like to turn it into a center for everyone, that will provide lots of free services for the needy, work in conjunction with other not-for-profit organizations in the area, and also be a spiritual (though not specifically religious) center. I think this is a great cause.

While we can get a mortgage and/or loans, our family is certainly not poor- our father (there are three daughters) is a wealthy businessowner. However, we don’t have the money to just point-blank buy it, because our father may not be willing to invest. This is a lot of money. How might we get some help in paying? Possibly community fundraisers? I mean, if we begin an official organization, we can raise money and get donations and partnerships… any other ideas or similar stories? We are in Rochester, NY.

If you are planning to start a nonprofit organization that can be a tax-exempt (501c) organization, there are all kinds of funding that you can get.
There are grants, corporate sponsors and fundraising campaigns.
e-mail me for more information. We are a 501c3

Its a great idea, but sounds like you may need to consider other operating costs first such as insurance, maintenance, staffing, etc. Id suggest coming up with a business plan like any small business, thats really what you are, although not generating a profit, but you have to make enough money to cover your costs. The kind of fundraising you need is a full-time job for probably 3 people. Not just a hobby. Another idea is spend some time volunteering in these types of orgs, not in the front-lines, but more administrative and see what really goes on.

Before you try bake sales and the like, try a Professional Wrestling Show. Why, because Professional Wrestling draws more than all other sports combined! You can get an Independent Promotion. You can also reach Promoter R. Brooks at and he can help get your Professional Wrestling fundraiser going.
