If I can afford to pay $600/mo. on rent, how come I can’t buy a house?

Deal Score0

Like 600/mo times 12 months in a year times a 35 year mortgage loan = $ 252,000 ….that’s enough for a house, but why won’t mortgage lenders give me a loan for the house?

Instead I have to throw away $ 600/month on apartment rent that I won’t get to keep when I retire. Doesn’t make any sense.
