How does a young person make it in life?

Deal Score0

I’m 18 and I found a college that is literally perfect for me. My problems are as follows, in 2009 my parents made a lot of money. My dad was bringing home 5,000 a month and my mom 2,000 a month. FASFA requires my parents W-2 for 2009, so I don’t fit their requirements. But, my parents are also dirt broke and haven’t paid their mortgage in months so their credit sucks. I have applied for a loan and the only way i can get it is if i have a co-signer. The only people i have is my parents. So if they were to co-sign i wouldn’t get it. Oh and i applied for a credit card where you dont need credit, and apparently I’m to horrible for them too. So while trying to gain credit and build myself up I’ve done the opposite by being rejected, multiple times. Oh yea not to mention i get about 7,000 a year, if and only if I had a very lucky year. With that i have to pay school, insurance both car and health, and have to find out how to live on my own. Please help me. I do not know how to get out of this rut. Any financial advice will be so helpful.

I waited until I was 24 to go to school. That way I was independent and could get full pell grants. Sucks, but it may be your only choice. If your parents aren’t making anything now, then next year re-apply when their taxes show that they have low income.

Apply for scholarships. Go to your college financial aid and apply…every year a lot of scholarship money is wasted because no one applies. Try having a plan…apply to one scholarship every week. If they need essays…make them….show them you are an involved person.
If for now you don’t have enough money go to a comunity college, then transfer…to me that’s a smart way to get credit for general courses at a cheaper rate and in the long run you’ll still get your diploma from the university you want.

    Good luck.

Is this in dollars? euro? My sister has financial problems too. Whatever you do, do not cosign with your parents. That is like them signing for your credit, I think. You do not need a credit card either. I do not aquire a credit card. My brother in law’s mother had very bad credit and she put her stuff in her son’s name and now he has what his mother gave him (bad credit).

I think you should talk to your school about any financial possiblities under your circumstances. You are not the one with the bad credit and you should not fall because of your parents’ situation.

Starting off small is another option. Time for college is not always in the now. If credit is engulfing your life, then having to deal with school and bills will not make your situation any better. Get a job and create your own credit by paying the bills you need to pay now. That way your credit will improve and then you can progress from there.

You can then go back to school with better credit and get financial support. I’m not a professional i’m just using what I’ve observed from my family. Being the baby of the family pays off. Haha.

Anyways, starting off small will help you reach your goal…it might not be in sight right now but you have to begin somewhere.

    Best of luck! 😀
