    It could have been USAA Insurance company. There are other companies that may offer better rates as well with other discounts. It very much depends on the condition of the house, materials used, location, proximity to fire hydrant, fire station, etc. For example, a wood shake roof cost more to insure, but you may get a discount for recently replaced roof, sprinklers (interior or exterior, even lawn sprinklers), gated community, burglar alarm, etc. If you are a member of Costco you can get preferred rates with Ameriprise (formerly American Express) You can also get a discount on homeowners insurance if you also buy Auto policy with the same company (multi-line discount) and an additional discount if you also buy a life insurance policy (check http://www.apac.com). Also, it is very important to choose an insurance company with a good claims-paying record, because it would not matter how much you saved upfront if your claim is not properly handled or denied… Check this article: http://www.justice.org/docs/TenWorstInsuranceCompanies.pdf

    USAA provides insurance for military personnel, retirees and their families. According to their website the following are eligible:

    * Children of USAA members.
    * Active-duty officers and enlisted personnel.
    * National Guard and Selected Reserve officers and enlisted personnel.
    * Officer candidates in commissioning programs (Academy, ROTC, OCS/OTS).
    * Former military personnel:
    o Retired officers and enlisted personnel.
    o Former officers and enlisted personnel who separated on or after 01/01/1996.

    I don’t see that police officers are eligible, unless they are retired military. It’s a shame, really, because USAA is a terrific company with great rates, great coverage and great service.

    I don’t know of any other company that gives a discount to police officers. Sorry!

    Good luck!

    Who told you that? YOu need to ask them what company gives that discount.

    It’s possible, they’re talking about USAA – http://www.usaa.com I thought it was only for MILITARY, but they might do police officers, also.
