I like Erie, but they don’t like old houses.

There’s no short cut to shopping around – to get the best coverage and best price, you have to contact 2-3 local agents, and get 6- 8 quotes and just flat out compare them.

I agree that Erie is a great company. I write for them in NC and in fact have my home and auto with them. They are OK with older homes if they have been updated. If you package your home and auto with them, their rates are good and they are an EXCELLENT company. Note, you DO have to qualify to have them.

Erie Insurance Company is a great company (they are one of my carriers). However, they are not in Arizona. Currently they write business in only 11 states and the District of Columbia–Pennsylvania, Illinois, Indiana, Maryland, North Carolina, New York, Ohio, Tennessee, Virginia, Wisconsin & West Virginia. Also FYI Erie Insurance Company does not mind old houses as long as they have been updated and are well maintained which is true for the majority of insurance companies.

If you are not in a state served by Erie Insurance, you might want to check into Travelers Insurance since they are licensed in all 50 states and the District of Columbia. They are highly rated and have been in business since 1864. We also write insurance through them & from personal experience with my own homeowners insurance and through clients the claims process with them is among the best offered in the industry. Visit their website at http://www.travelers.com/ to find additional information and a local agent.

    Good Luck on your search.

I recommend speaking to a broker, not a specific company. A broker works with several companies and can find the best rates and coverage for you. To find a broker, log on to a website like http://www.homeownerswiz.com and fill out a form requesting a free quote. Your information will be sent to a broker in your area who will contact you. Good luck!
