Has anyone ever used a credit repair company that works?

Deal Score0

I am trying to buy another car but since my divorce my credit is bad. I am keeping up current payments on everything but I have a history of bad credit. Recently I was referred to a credit repair co. Do they work?

Avoid the temptation to pay a “credit repair” firm, as they cannot remove accurate negative info. If you’ve had recent defaults, charge-offs, late pays, then you need to understand this items have to age of your credit report naturally. After 7 years from the date of default you’ll get a clean slate. “Credit repair” firms have no special power to magically delete negative items….all they do is dispute all negative items on your credit report and hope that the credit bureaus cannot validate the debt within the 30 day allowable time frame, in which case they must remove the items. You don’t have to pay anyone to do this as you can do it yourself for free.

The answer is yes and no. None of them are really legitimate in removing information that is accurate, even if it is bad, from your report. They will usually flood credit reporting agencies with disputes for your debts, and in some cases they can actually prove that something on your report should be removed. The issue is that even if they get the credit reporting agencies to remove the incorrect information, if the creditor reporting the data hasn’t agreed to remove it, it will just show up again within the next month or so.
If you really do have bad credit, how would you expect them to legally and honestly remove it from your report?
If you keep up on your obligations for the next few months your score should start to improve. You could even have a statement listed on your credit report that states some of the negative debt on your credit is due to complications from a divorce and have a date of the divorce listed. That could help to some degree. I just don’t recommend wasting your money on a credit repair company.

I have had great experience with a great credit repair company. Believe it or not, there are legitimate companies out there. You have to do your homework, speak to a live person, and ask a lot of questions like I did. The credit repair company I used uses consumer rights and laws that most people aren’t even aware they have to dispute negative items on your credit reports. Contrary to what the public is made to believe, it is ILLEGAL for the creditors, collection agencies, or the credit bureaus to put any negative items back on your credit reports once it has been removed. There are so many myths and untruths the average consumer thinks is fact, that’s why finding a legitimate credit repair company can be so important. Having experts working with you, knowing how to use your consumer rights and laws, and knowing when to apply them, can make the disputing process less stressful and time consuming. Plus you will get the results you need a lot quicker. Yes, you can do your own credit repair, and you can also defend yourself in court also. Most people would opt to have an attorney represent them that has the experience and expertise in the field they need. The same applies in credit repair – knowing how to dispute and what rights and laws apply is key. Today your credit score is the most important number in your life. The better that number is, the better interest rates for financing, insurance premiums, chances for employment, and overall quality of life. Finding a good credit repair company is certainly worth the time and small financial investment upfront for the long term investment of your future. Don’t be fooled by what you hear from friends and family about what can or can’t be done with credit repair or on your credit reports. At least try to find a good credit repair company like I did and see for yourself what a legitimate company can do and how it can change your life for the better. The education you will also get about credit repair and how the credit system works will also be well worth it.
The company I used really took the time to speak with me and really cared. Debtbusters911.Com.

Kudos to Gina for a thoughtful and informative answer! Yes, there are many, many myths about credit repair companies – perhaps the most destructive of which is that “they’re all scams!”

Nevertheless, a few of them ARE scams. All the worse because they give the whole industry a bad name, and discourage people from seeking help who desperately need it.

So if you’re considering a credit repair company, don’t let all the myths and half-truths discourage you from seeking help: but DO your homework before you hire anyone. Check out the blog post below for some valuable tips on evaluating companies, and separating the good ones from the crooks.

    Hope this helps.
