credit check on me returned weird results for my SS#?

Deal Score0

I signed up for a brokerage (scottrade) and of course like any, they do a credit check on your identity when you sign up.

Well, mine produced weird results, it says that according to my credit check, I took out a mortgage loan in 2002. Problem is, I was only 14 years old in 2002.

Could I possibly be the victim of identity theft? Or do you think their credit check software is just acting up?

You can get a free credit report, and look it over and dispute anything you see that is wrong/incorrect/suspicious.

Sounds like it could be identity theft. Order a copy of your credit report from somewhere like annualcreditreport.com and get a copy quick. Review the contents and see. This happens more and more. I work in financing and I see this alot. If the item is not yours, dispute it so they can investigate it and remove it if they can determine that it could not possibly be your account. Good Luck!

I would suggest that you contact a lawyer who is experienced in credit and identity theft. You need legal help to clear yourself from this fraud.

If you have common first and last name, that could be the problem. Request your free credit report from annualcreditreport.com or call them toll free @ 1-877-322-8228 for all 3 reports. You’re intitled to a free report every 12 months.
