    It depends on your local laws.

    When I was looking at renting out my second home as a vacation rental, the RENTAL AGENCY required that I carry liability and property coverage on the premises, for them to handle the rental. If I would have done it all myself, I would NOT need to carry the liability and property coverage.

    But it would have been stupid not to, because if renter got hurt there and sued me, I’d be paying all those lawyer bills myself.
