Buying a Saturn SC2 with 100,000 miles?

Deal Score0

I’m 18 years old and im about to finance a car. I have a 1990 chevy corsica that i bought in December and since then Ive put over 3000 in to it. Im done putting money into something thats worthless. Im looking at a 1998 saturn sc2 with 100,8xx miles on it. Its an automatic. They want 4,000 for it, comes inspected with either 30 day or 3 month warranty. My moms complaining that it has too many miles but she doesnt understand that being 18 and not having credit isnt easy when buying a car.. she wont co sign for me either. the guy already told me im not gonna be able to get something super new with low miles, but I have to establish credit and start somewhere. Im just scared of making car payments as well as repairs. Does this sound like a good deal? any suggestions?

    (Kelly Blue Book is a popular source for information on used car values. $ 4K is too much to consider paying for that car. Try going to a site like carmax, where you can search by price, and see what you can get for your money. Don’t be afraid use this information against the dealer when negotiating a price.)

    $ 3,660

    * Looks new, is in excellent mechanical condition and needs no reconditioning.
    * Never had any paint or body work and is free of rust.
    * Clean title history and will pass a smog and safety inspection.
    * Engine compartment is clean, with no fluid leaks and is free of any wear or visible defects.
    * Complete and verifiable service records.

    Less than 5% of all used vehicles fall into this category.

    An 11 year old Saturn is not worth that kind of money. You would be buying a money pit as well. It is at the stage where things start breaking on a regular basis. The Saturn isn’t known for longevity. The most the dealer gave for it was about $ 1500. Pass on this one.
